I start with very fast and rough sketches, just trying to get out core ideas and concepts as fast as possible. I’ll then refine it into a more presentable rough. For the final piece I work on finessing the drawing and getting the line work to a good standard. Usually once I am happy with the line drawing I will begin to play with colour options until something sticks. I want things to look clear and balanced.
